Who are you?

We are the Local Void, a polymultiple DID system with complex functions, a headspace the size of a planet, and a propensity for stories. We have amnesia, we split a lot, we have sidesystems/layers/subsystems, we have a lot of headmates fronting at once, and we don't really use "host" as a noun.

We're currently undergoing a process of recovery/integration that we call "the Unification", as our headspace takes the form of a planet with an inhabited continent, both of which are called Voidelia. The reason our system is so complex is because, due to early life trauma, we dissociated into three core selves - Blue, Bryan, and Blixa (the last of which is the only one to currently exist within the system, although parts of the other two exist within other headmates, including Blixa xself) - and those selves made up elaborate stories that were replicated in the innerworld.

However, these selves all eventually dissociated into more parts with varying levels of amnesia, and due to being raised on stories like The Chronicles of Narnia, they developed innerworlds based on fictional universes and complex narratives in which outerworld events were replicated in the innerworld and experienced by headmates who often didn't know anything about the outerworld at all.

In our innerworld, the experiences of the core selves are understood through the narrative of the land of Voidelia, which was historically split into a West and East part (where the West was usually politically dominant) and later a Central part. West Voidelia built a wall between itself and East Voidelia that represents our amnesia in the past, and Central Voidelia represents the part of the system that came to exist and was discovered in 2013 and didn't know about the other parts until 2025.

Functions and structures

We do not use the word "host" as a role in the long-term without modifiers, as our system experiences "hosting" as a state of being in which two (or sometimes three) headmates with some ties to our collective identity and interests are frontstuck and are the main ones in charge, by default, of our body's decisions and life. Some headmates are better at hosting than others, but hosting for too long also contributes to burnout.

As a result, we have something called "management shifts", in which we trade off hosts and other fronters in shifts that generally last 3 to 4 days. We therefore do not have any headmates who are always considered to be the host, but we use the term "director" to refer to a headmate who frequently hosts, as well as other terms based on filmmaking that can be seen here.

Our system is best thought of as a series of sidesystems with varying levels of amnesia between each other. Different sidesystems take turns having different members or layers within the sidesystems handle management shifts. We compare our system to a federated republic with strong elements of direct democracy, and we call ourselves the United Federation of Voidelia.

As a disabled traumatized person, it takes a lot of energy and mental resources just to handle daily tasks, so this is why we tend to have a lot of headmates in front at once, as well as a lot of different headmates with similar roles or personalities. Having large front groups does not take a lot of energy for us, but allocating all of our mental, emotional, and physical experiences to only one, two, or a few consciousnesses at once does.

When we list our headmates on this this list or use PluralKit proxies, we include a sequence of emojis that refer to what sidesystem and supercluster (and, if applicable, subsystem) the headmate is from. This page explains what all of them mean. Familiarity of them will contribute to understanding why some groups of headmates do or don't know or remember certain things, but it is not essential to interacting with us, and we try to be responsible for our own amnesia.

Other facts

While we tend not to post about our actual life on the internet due to remembering a time when the online and offline spheres were completely and totally separate, we are someone who has a lot of time on eir hands and uses that time to draw, write, go to karaoke and shows, run Discord servers and request-based blogs, go to the forest, and learn about a variety of topics including wildlife, cooking, history, music, and more.

We are fictoromantic and our main fictional partner is Thomas Jerome Newton (The Man Who Fell to Earth). However, we also have longstanding feelings for Norman Bates (Psycho) and Ford Prefect (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). Check this section for more information!

Please be aware that we're somewhat out of the loop on things like internet discourse, specific community terminology, and even fandom culture. Despite using fandom terms to describe some of our engagement with media, we approach such things from a media analysis lens and don't always "get" fandom attitudes. In particular, we believe that fiction and reality are connected to each other in ways that many people deny they are, but not so closely that fiction is equivalent to reality.

Furthermore, while we do participate in a lot of spaces where mental illness is discussed frequently, we don't always share the same attitudes or assumptions as people in those spaces do. In particular, we have views that emphasize accountability and personal responsibility, which we feel many people do not take for their mental health. We also believe there is an extent to which people need to do things that are difficult for them and that, if you have triggers, you cannot spend your entire life constantly avoiding them.

While we are polite to people we disagree with, you should also understand that we may not take some of the same things for granted that you do, and we also might not tolerate certain behaviors, especially if they personally negatively impact us.

At the end of the day, though, we are friendly and enjoy talking to anyone we meet, and if you add us on Discord, you are free to message us any time. We will send you pictures of animals, our cooking, our art, and the local forests!

Our main social media presence is our Denden account on Fediverse, but we are most active on Discord (see this page about messaging habits), where our username is ".localvoid.". We accept any friend requests that don't look like spam, although we will start interactions by asking where you found us from.

This page has links to pages of more information about our system, and this page has more links to more places you can find us online. Please check this page of disclaimers before looking further at the site, especially if you do not wish to view flashing graphics (e.g. blinkies).
