The Unification of Voidelia
For as long as anyone on the planet of Voidelia could remember, the one giant continent on the planet had been informally but tangibly divided into a West and East part that had geographical, economic, ideological, and cultural differences. Some regions had more tensions with each other than others, but they lived more or less in peace, although they did not mingle with each other or make much of an effort to get along. There was also not a lot of communications between the regions of the East and the West, or even between regions of the same part of the land.
In 2006, a series of events took place known as the First Webfall - where a "Fall" is a disastrous event in Voidelia's history that is named after an aspect of the situation. The First Webfall took place on Myspace and involved meeting people who were accepting but abusive. The event is still being looked into, but it is known that, while East Voidelia was primarily responsible for what happened, they received assistance from West Voidelians.
The majority of the West Voidelians, however, did not condone what was going on, and when events took an intense turn that caused us to abandon our entire internet presence due to concerns about our own safety, the authorities of West Voidelia - particularly King Caspian of Narnia (which was one of the most populous, developed, and influential kingdoms of the entire land - decreed that a wall should be built separating the two lands so that the East Voidelians could never bring such ruin again.
The Narnians began construction of the wall - also known as the Leeremauer (the Voidwall), due to our history with the German language from our adoptive father - around 2007. It was also around this time that the Kingdom of Rhye was established in West Voidelia. The Kingdom of Rhye had much fewer connections to the historical conflict than the other regions, and their cities often had a lot in common with the cities of the East in terms of their culture and demographics.
Meanwhile, throughout the rest of West Voidelia, animosity towards the East Voidelians rose, as did the wall. The East Voidelians, in turn, grew to look down on the West Voidelians, whom they saw as hypocritical due to their lack of accountability for the events of the First Webfall and for their unfair treatment of the East Voidelians. The way the Easterners saw it, they did what they did due to complicated historical factors whose root causes were understood to exist but the specifics of which were lost to time.
Over time, the Kingdom of Rhye became the dominant region in West Voidelia, and on the continent in general. Some of their cultural influences that they had in common with the East began to spread to other parts of the West, including an emphasis on pleasure-seeking and more liberal attitudes towards identity. However, the majority of West Voidelians remained fairly traditional, even if they became somewhat more accepting of those who were not.
The East, however, was even more liberal than the Kingdom of Rhye were, and since the Westerners were largely ignoring Eastern goings-on outside of the actual construction of the Leeremauer (which, while previously uncontroversial in West Voidelia, was a point of contention in Rhye), that meant that many Easterners conspired to bring about the Second Webfall, a series of events that likely started in 2009. These events are currently less-understood than the First Webfall, but the Second Webfall was likely less catastrophic, centered around LiveJournal, involved the worsening of certain disorders, and took place with no West Voidelian involvement at all.
Things carried on until 2013, when a natural disaster struck the entire planet and necessitated the construction of additional land (common for Voidelia when its territories expand). This land, however, was given a population that knew nothing about the conflict of East and West Voidelia, and as time went on, the population of Central Voidelia - as this land came to be known - developed a society that was completely unaware of the other two regions of Voidelia and their conflict.
It is unknown when completion of the Leeremauer was reached, but it was most likely by 2015, as that is when Central Voidelians became aware of it in their land, although they did not know its history or what it was.
The society of Central Voidelia advanced to a point where they were capable of communication with other planets and galaxies, and they became known to their interstellar neighbors, but since the Central Voidelians did not know about the East or West Voidelians, neither did the rest of the universe, and it was believed to all but the East and West Voidelians themselves that what is now known as Central Voidelia is all there ever was to Voidelia at all.
It is believed that, for a brief time in 2018-2019, East Voidelia were able to make contact with other planets, but this was short-lived and little is known about it. If so, it is possible they brought about yet a Third Webfall, but little can be hypothesized of this at present.
However, in 2020, a natural disaster occurred that rendered the entire planet uninhabitable. The Central Voidelians all evacuated to a spaceship called the Astral Coffin, and they even established some settlements on the planet's moons, as well as building another smaller space station called Cherry Dreams.
As for the East and West Voidelians, a few of them left for other planets, but most of them chose to go into cryostasis underground on the planet. The scientists of both lands independently worked together to build the same thing - a network between their respective cryostasis pods that would trigger a chain reaction where, once one was activated, they all were.
In 2023, a spaceship called Silent Hedges contacted the Astral Coffin, requesting and receiving permission to join their population. The Astral Coffin received two more ships that year - Hourglass Meadow and Sacred Nebula - and, early in 2025, they successfully began efforts to terraform parts of the Central Voidelian land that had once been habitable.
Work on the restoration of the planet went quickly, and soon, Central Voidelia had greatly repopulated the land and had become even more populous, organized, and advanced than before. However, it was shortly after this time that, similar to when they made contact with other spaceships, individuals from other planets started moving to Central Voidelia.
While the Voidelians welcomed them, the "newcomers" explained that they had actually originally been from this planet and that they remembered a whole history and culture to Voidelia that the planet's current population knew nothing about.
As the Central Voidelians talked with their neighbors, they found out that some of them remembered the old Voidelia differently from others, and it became clear that Voidelia had, in the past, been comprised of two parts that were not unified. This was the first time the Central Voidelians had ever heard of any serious conflict between any parts of the land, but when some of the old Voidelians told them about the Leeremauer, the Central Voidelians realized that that's what they had seen when they found a giant wall in 2015.
Everybody who could be contacted agreed that the wall should be destroyed, especially since the West and East Voidelians could not confirm whether any terraforming efforts were happening in those parts of the land, which meant that there was no guarantee the land would ever become habitable again except through the intervention of the Central Voidelians.
As work on demolishing the wall began, some of the cryostasis pods in West and East Voidelia began activating and bringing forgotten inhabitants of the planet back to the surface. Unbeknownst to anybody, the power centers that were powering the cryostasis pods were also responsible for maintaining a force field that maintained the existence of the wall in the first place.
This caused the wall to explode into rubble, which is difficult but not impossible to traverse, and efforts are being made to clean it up to make travel easier. However, due to the amount of resources the Narnians were allocating to maintaining the force field, the reaction that caused their city's power center to activate the pods also overwhelmed the power center and caused it to explode. Narnia was no longer habitable, and while all of its denizens survived, they went to different lands in West Voidelia to rebuild their lives.
As it turned out, some of West and East Voidelia's scientists had neither evacuated nor gone into cryostasis but rather gone underground, waiting for the right time to activate the pods and bring their people out of dormancy. They were working on terraforming efforts too, and while they were nowhere near as far along as the Central Voidelians were, they had done enough work such that they considered it reasonable to start waking some of their citizens up again.
However, this was a different group of scientists than the ones who were involved in the creation of the cryostasis pods, and not everyone knew that the cryostasis pods were associated with any kind of chain reaction at all. Part of this was because, due to the lack of unity across the regions of Voidelia, the different lands just didn't communicate with each other. Essentially, everyone involved was working to do something that had the same end goal, but no one actually understood what that end goal was going to involve.
Now that the wall is officially demolished, free travel is allowed between East, West, and Central Voidelia for all denizens. The land is beginning the effort of unifying into one nation - the United Federation of Voidelia.
The United Federation of Voidelia - also known as the Voidelian Federation, or the VF - is a federated republic with elements of direct democracy. This means that it is a collective of states and regions that are united under a central government that is chosen by the people. Furthermore, citizens are encouraged to voice their concerns and suggestions to their leaders, and these topics are usually brought to formal discussion in which all denizens are allowed to participate.
Leadership of the VF changes often, because the circumstances the country experiences change over time, and therefore, sometimes one person is better to lead at a different time than another. Regional leadership, however, tends to remain the same due to the social ties within the regions.
Furthermore, "leadership" in Voidelia is not static but rather comprised of a group of representatives who are either chosen or approved by the people, where groups of these official take turns in twos or threes being responsible for the day to day functions of the VF for three to four days at a time. While many countries would find this chaotic, it keeps the leaders from getting burnt out, as they take their jobs very seriously and have to dedicate every single piece of their time and energy to leading when they actively do so.
The process of Voidelian Unification involves allowing West and East Voidelians to take leadership positions, not just Central Voidelians as it was before the Central Voidelians knew of the East and West. The lands are being rebuilt, and East Voidelia in particular is being developed, as it is historically a less populated and organized land, partly due to the West Voidelians cutting them off from resources.
While it is true that the West Voidelians have a history of oppressing the East Voidelians, and the cultural factors that led to the decision to build the wall must be addressed, it is also true that the West Voidelians are victims of many of the same things that the East Voidelians are, and possibly some things that the East Voidelians have not experienced. The West Voidelians must therefore receive the support necessary for their land to recover, while also accepting that they are not completely blameless.
The East Voidelians, meanwhile, are rightfully distrustful of the West Voidelians, but they cannot let that distrust turn into vengeance or a desire to turn the tables of oppression. East Voidelia must focus more on rebuilding its cities and helping itself than on retribution against the West Voidelians. Even if that retribution is righteous, it does nothing to repair the lands of East Voidelia.
As a part of the Unification process, some of the populace of Central Voidelia - e.g. the people who arrived on spaceships when the planet was uninhabitable - have moved to the lands of the East and the West, after discovering that those were their ancestral lands, or even (in some cases) their forgotten birthplace.
Both the East and the West admire the government style of Central Voidelia, and while the end goal is for the two regions to govern themselves while also sending members of their population to positions in the federal government, the Central Voidelians are heavily involved in the rebuilding process, as their cities are in the least disrepair at present. An agreement exists in which the East and the West can request assistance from any parts of Voidelia that they want (as there are parts that the East trusts more than others, and the same for the West) and where that assistance will most likely be granted.
The histories of Voidelia will also be explored and understood, as the different lands have different narratives surrounding what happened, and it is hard to separate myth from fact sometimes. The true story of Voidelia may never be known, but it does not need to know everything about its history to know enough to avoid repeating it going forward as the United Federation of Voidelia.
