Our system has a complicated history with addiction that persists into the current day and influences our collective status as an addict.

Our system's substance habits - which include use of alcohol, marijuana, kratom, and benzodiazepines - seems to be a nearly universal trait across the system. While some headmates feel some of the symptoms of our addiction more strongly, have an even higher drive to use than your average member of the system, or strongly identify with their addiction (all of which are what we mean with the role "addiction holder"), almost all of them seem to have the desire to use in some capacity or another.

If a headmate does not consider themself an addict, this is considered notable to the point where their non-addict status constitutes a role (specifically "symptom neutralizer", for the addiction). Our addiction is so prevalent that most headmates who have roles involving managing our addiction are not people who have a desire to quit using altogether but rather wish to use in moderation.

Due to the frequency of our substance use, we are under the influence often enough that headmates who would not choose to take substances if they had their own bodies are still personally familiar with how substances feel. They also have knowledge and life experience with addiction that most people don't have unless they are an addict themself.

Therefore, the system collectively identifies as an addict. Whether we are a recovering addict or not depends entirely on your definition of "recovery", such that some headmates see themselves as recovering and some do not. However, the addiction can be agreed upon as collective.
