Local Void: Amnesiaplex

Amnesiaplex

[ Back to: Functions ]

Amnesiaplex refers to when a whole system is affected by amnesia. This does not, however, necessarily mean that all headmates have amnesia themselves.

Until 2025, we did not know or suspect that we had any serious system-related amnesia that had really affected our life. Then we discovered evidence that we had certain online experiences outside of what was in "surface memory" (memories we had that weren't obscured by amnesia). Eventually, we discovered the Hidden Superclusters - amnesia-based groups that started out like sidesystems but that became so complex due to trauma and compartmentalization that they were more like sidesystems within sidesystems.

Amnesia is complicated for our system, because on one hand, it's a good thing we don't remember all of our trauma fully, and headmates in the system have split into fragments over holding what they felt was too much trauma for one person. On the other hand, not knowing anything about our past means we cannot learn from our mistakes, and while none of our abuse was our fault, much of it wouldn't have happened if we'd made better choices.

As a result, the Unification means that, while amnesia no longer keeps any parts of the system from communicating with or knowing about each other, many parts still have amnesia about our past.

While Blixa's Supercluster likely does not have factual amnesia of things that happened after it formed, they do not have the memories of much of Blue's and Bryan's trauma. Likewise, Blue and Bryan know the broad strokes of each other's trauma but don't personally have the memories of it.

There are many details the superclusters do not know about each other's trauma, with a few exceptions in the form of amnesia managers between superclusters and sidesystems who help maintain amnesia overall.

While not every member of the system has the same level or kind of amnesia as every other headmate, they are all affected by it in some way, and even benefit from it in the current day.
