Emmerich is a cambion - half human, half concubus - who was born in East Germany and raised by his succubus mother and his cambion older half-brother (who was also like a father to him). He didn't have the best experience with them and escaped them by joining a Spectrian abbey (where Spectrianism was the formal name of the type of Satanism practiced by the Church of Ghost).

He left Germany for the Church's Ministry's headquarters in Sweden, where he met Terzo. They eventually developed a romantic relationship with each other.
